Reusing a task, and sharing one with another teacher
A task is not owned by the module it appears on. It belongs to whoever wrote it, which is what lets the same exercise be set again next year or given to somebody else teaching the same unit.
The same task on two modules
One task can be set by two modules at once, and each module decides its own rules for it: the due date, the time limit, how many attempts a quiz gets and what a hand-in may be. So one exercise can be practice for one class and an assessment for another.
Somebody who opens a public task link is asked what to call themselves before they start, and that name is shown beside their score on the register the teacher reads. It belongs to that one task and is not an identity: the same person on another task chooses again, and two people may choose the same name.

Starting from a task you already have
On the module’s Tasks tab, press Duplicate beside a task you own. You get a copy named after it with -copy on the end, with the same words, program, hidden tests and settings: the due date, the time limit, what may be handed in and how many goes a quiz gets. Rename it and change what is different.
The copy is not given to anybody, so nobody is emailed about a task you have not finished. Hand it out when it is ready. A web page or SQL task, which is made of several files, cannot be duplicated yet.
Giving it to a colleague
You can add another teacher as an owner of a task. They can then set it on their own modules and edit it, and you both keep it.
Owning the module is not the same as owning the tasks on it: a teacher who wrote an exercise keeps it even if somebody else runs the module.
To offer a task to everybody rather than to one colleague, use Share for review on the task’s People tab. That sends us a copy to read and is how it reaches our Library; see Sharing a lesson with the Library.
Questions people ask
- If I edit a task, does it change for a class that already had it?
- The task changes, and marks already given do not. A mark is stored as it was given.
- What happens to my tasks if I leave?
- They pass to whoever removes your account, so nothing set for a class disappears mid-term.
