Your first year free. Then per student, and staff are free.
A college gets a year on the whole platform for nothing, up to 50 students, with no card. After that it is US$450 a year for your first 50 students, US$37.50 a month, and every student after that at a rate that falls as the college grows. Everything on the platform is in the price: AI, deploying, the cloud, labs and Ubuntu VMs and running code are all fair use. No quote to request and no per-feature charges. A year invoiced in advance is priced again at its end on the average number of students you had: students who joined are charged for their days and students who left are credited for theirs.
Billed once a year, by invoice or card. Staff accounts are free and are never counted.

A college of 100 pays US$450 for its first 50 and US$9 for each of the next 50, US$900 a year, US$75 a month. Staff accounts are free in every band, however many there are.

365 days free
A college gets its first 365 days and up to 50 students free, with no card and no paperwork, and we will line the year up with your academic year if you ask. A year that ends without an order turns into nothing.
20% off for deciding early
Order before the decision date agreed when your trial begins and the first year is 20% less. The trial runs its full length either way.
10% off three years
Commit to three years and each is 10% less, at a price that does not change for the three.
Founding colleges
For the first colleges to sign, 50% off for 2 years in exchange for a case study. Ask on the call.
How billing works
Once a year, on the students you have.
- Billed annually by invoice, or monthly by card
Most colleges pay a year in advance against a purchase order. The year starts when the trial ends and we will align it to your academic year on request. By card the same price is taken a twelfth at a time, on the students you have that month.
- Invoiced on your first day, settled on your average
The invoice in advance is for the students on the platform on the year’s first day. At the year’s end the year is priced again on the average number of students across it, each counted for the days their account was there: students who joined are charged for their days, and students who left are credited for theirs. The difference goes on your renewal invoice, or is refunded if you do not renew.
- Your first 50 students are one price
US$450 a year covers a department’s first 50 students whether it has ten or fifty, so a small department is never invoiced for an odd handful. Above that you pay for exactly the students you have.

Before you decide
Questions people ask
- Is the free year really the whole platform?
Yes. Every language, every editor, quizzes, hand-ins, AI, deploying, the cloud, labs and Ubuntu VMs, for up to 50 students and any number of staff. The fair-use limits apply to it as they do to a paid year.
- What happens at the end of the year?
You order, and are charged from the day you order rather than the day the year ended. A year that ends without an order turns into nothing: no bill follows it, and no card details were taken that could be charged.
- Our academic year does not start in September. Does that matter?
No. The free year is 365 days from the day you sign up, and we will move the end of it to line up with your academic year if you ask. Say so on the call or email us.
- Do you charge for staff?
No, in any band, however many. Only students are counted.
- Why are the first fifty students a flat price?
So a department can begin on a card, US$37.50 a month, without anybody counting heads or raising an invoice for an odd number of students. Above the first 50 you pay for exactly the students you have.
- Why do the rates not have names?
Because they are rates and not plans. Every college gets the same platform, and a larger one simply pays less per student, so a name on a band would suggest a difference in what you get that does not exist.
- What does fair use mean for AI and deploying?
Included and fair use: metered and capped per person by the platform’s own limits, which a college may raise at its own cost. The limits are stated in the manual and shown on your Settings page; a college that wants more than they allow can buy more at a rate agreed in writing, and we never raise a limit for you and bill it afterwards.
- Can we pay by purchase order?
Yes. Most colleges do. A card through PayPal works too.
- Is there a minimum contract?
A year, and no minimum size. There is no contract at all during your free year, or for an individual account, which is free for ever.
- Will the price change?
We give at least 30 days’ notice of any change, a change is never retrospective, and a three-year commitment fixes the price for the three.
