Reporting a problem, searching and keyboard shortcuts

Three things on every page once you are signed in: Support on the bar for telling us what is wrong, Search for getting anywhere quickly, and a sheet of keyboard shortcuts.

Telling us something is wrong

Support, on the bar, is open to everybody signed in. Pick which kind of thing it is (“Something is broken”, “Something is confusing”, “An idea, or something missing”), sum it up in a line and say what happened. The page you were on goes with it, and so does your email address, so that whoever builds the platform can reply.

A screenshot can go with it too, as a PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 4.0 MB. Other kinds, a GIF or an SVG for example, are refused. It stays on our own storage and only our administrators can open it, but check it does not show anything about another student before you send it.

If a report cannot be sent, because the day’s reports are used or the screenshot is refused, the page says why and what you typed stays in the boxes.

You get a report number back. A reply comes by email; to add anything later, write to [email protected] with the number.

Search

Search, on the bar, or Ctrl or ⌘ and K, or / when you are not typing, opens a box that finds modules, tasks, courses, people and the pages on your bar. The arrow keys move through what it found and Enter opens it. It finds only what your own pages would show you, so a student finds the modules they are on.

On a list, which tab you are on, what you searched for, what you sorted by and which page you turned to are kept in the page’s address. A reload keeps them, and a filtered list can be sent to a colleague as a link. A reload or the Back button also puts the page back where you had scrolled to.

Keyboard shortcuts

Press ? anywhere to see them all, or Keyboard shortcuts at the foot of the page. g then a letter goes to a page on your bar: g h for Home, g m for Modules, g t for Tasks, g b for Build, and so on. In the code editor, Ctrl or ⌘ and Enter runs the program, with Shift as well it runs the tests, and Ctrl or ⌘ and S saves at once.

A shortcut presses the button already on the page, so it never does anything the button would not. The single letters do nothing while you are typing, and handing work in has no shortcut, because it cannot be taken back.

Questions people ask

Is a report published anywhere?
No. It goes to the people who build the platform and is used for nothing else.
How many reports can I send?
Five in a day, counted for your account, and the page tells you how many you have left before you write one.
