What students are told, and when

When something happens to a student’s work they are told twice: on their own page, and by email. Both are once per thing rather than once per press.

What counts as something to be told about

Being put on a module, a task set for them, a comment from staff, and work sent back with a reason. Nothing else, and nothing about other people.

Three comments on a task they have not opened are one line and one email, not three: the notice counts rather than repeats.

The What is new panel on a student's page, with a teacher's comment on one of their tasks
One line per thing that happened, and it goes when they open what it points at.

The email is optional and the panel is not

A student can turn the email off from the panel itself and lose nothing, because the panel is the record and the email is the reminder.

Questions people ask

Do teachers get emails about everything students do?
No. Nothing emails staff about ordinary activity, on purpose: a mailbox full of your own class’s saves is one you stop reading.
When does a notice go away?
When the student opens what it points at.
