Who looked at whose work
Going through somebody’s work is recorded. Opening it, editing it, downloading it, marking it and sending it back are all entries, and nothing removes one.
The student sees it too
There is deliberately no staff-only version of this log. A student can see who opened their work and when, which is the thing that makes the record worth having: a log only one side can read is a log the other side has to take on trust.

What is written down
Opening a student’s work, editing it, downloading it, marking it and sending it back. A student handing a task in or taking a file back. A later due date being given to them, and taken away. A teacher taking over their lab and handing it back. And a marks export: every student in the file gets an entry, because what left the platform was about them.
A student reading their own history is not written down, because this log is about people going through somebody else’s work.
It cannot be tidied away
Entries are only ever added. Marking and reopening are separate entries, so "was this marked early and reopened" is answerable months later, which is what a moderation or an appeal actually needs.
Questions people ask
- Is a teacher’s own view of their own module recorded?
- Opening a student’s copy is. Reading the module’s own version of a task is not, because that is the task rather than anybody’s work.
- Can an entry be deleted?
- No. That is the point of it.
