This is the first page of the lesson. Read it and have a go at the activities. The rest is in the full lesson.

Ten computers and one printer

A small firm has ten computers. Each one has its own printer, its own copy of the price list, and its own internet line. A new price list arrives. Somebody has to copy it ten times.

Then the firm joins the computers together. One list. One printer. One internet line. What did they gain, and what did they risk?

Networks let people share

A network lets devices share things. This saves money and time.

Staff share one printer and one internet line. Files live in one central place, so everyone sees the newest copy. A backup of one place covers everybody. People can send messages and work on the same file. Rules and updates are set once for all computers.
