The Wi-Fi that drops every Tuesday
Every Tuesday at 10am, the Wi-Fi in room 5 drops for two minutes. Each week a technician restarts the Wi-Fi box. It works again. Nothing is learned.
A cycle for learning turns each fix into something you know next time.

Note
I can use the four stages of Kolb's cycle to learn from a support problem.

Four stages that lead back to the start
Kolb's cycle has four stages.
Concrete experience: you do something or something happens.
Reflective observation: you look back and think about what you saw.
Abstract conceptualisation: you make an idea or theory to explain it.
Active experimentation: you test the idea in practice. This gives a new experience, and the cycle goes round again.
Worked example: the Tuesday Wi-Fi drop
| Stage | In the example |
|---|---|
| Concrete experience | The Wi-Fi drops in room 5 at 10am on Tuesday, and a restart fixes it |
| Reflective observation | It is always Tuesday, always 10am, and only room 5 |
| Abstract conceptualisation | Idea: a device that starts at 10am on Tuesday clogs that access point |
| Active experimentation | Move the Tuesday 10am job to another time, then watch next week |
