One tap, five records
You buy a pair of trainers in a shop app. You tap Pay. Behind the screen, five records appear.
One says what you bought. One says what you paid. One goes on your monthly statement. One tells the shop it has a pair less. One reminds the app that you like blue.
Every tap leaves a trail. Today you learn what the trail is made of.

Transactional data: purchasing
Transactional data is a record made every time money or goods change hands. Each sale makes one.
In purchasing you meet three kinds of record. An invoice is the bill. A statement lists a month of bills and payments. Credit is money you may pay later, or money the shop owes back to you, such as for a returned item.
Three purchasing records
| Record | What it shows | A question it answers |
|---|---|---|
| Invoice | What was bought, the price and who owes it | How much does Sam owe for order 2? |
| Statement | All bills and payments in a month | Has Asha paid everything this month? |
| Credit | Money owed later, or owed back | How much credit has Lee left? |

A reservation holds one seat, room or time slot for one person. Booking data is the pile of reservations.
From it a business counts availability, the places still free. It can also set prices. A busy peak slot costs more. A quiet off-peak slot costs less, to fill empty seats.
