Deleting your own account

Your profile has a tab called Your account, and what it offers depends on whose account it is. An account you opened for yourself is yours to delete. An account at a college holds work the college keeps a record of, so there you ask.

A personal account: delete it yourself

On a free personal account, one made when you booked a call, or one you hold as a student of the Public college’s free lessons, press Delete my account. Nobody set you the work and no college holds a mark or a hand-in of yours, so the decision is yours alone. It asks once, saying what goes and what stays, and then closes the account: you are signed out and cannot sign in again. Calls you have booked stay on our records, because we have to keep them for tax.

A site administrator is offered neither button, because deleting the last one could lock everybody out of the site. Another site administrator removes the account from the Users page.

30 days to change your mind

Nothing is deleted straight away. The account is deleted 30 days after it closes, and until then the email we send you has a link that brings it back: follow it and press the button on the page, and the account is as you left it. An administrator can also bring one back from the Users page.

After the 30 days the account goes to the bin, so even then it can be put back by an administrator until somebody deletes it for good.

An account at a college: ask

A student or a member of staff at a college presses Request to delete instead. Whoever looks after the account is told: the college’s administrators, or us when it is a college administrator asking. Nothing changes in the meantime: you stay signed in and your work is untouched, and the account is deleted only if they decide to.

Asking twice does not move the date of the request, so an administrator can see how long somebody has been waiting. The request shows on the Users page, where Keep turns it down.

Questions people ask

Does following the link sign me in?
No. It only stops the deletion, and it works once. After that you sign in the usual way.
Can I delete a student’s account myself?
A college administrator removes accounts from the Users page, which puts them in the bin straight away rather than waiting 30 days.
