DA 5.9: Choosing a response to an attack risk

This is the first page of the lesson. Read it and have a go at the activities. The rest is in the full lesson.

60 minutes

Same threat, different place

A stolen laptop is a problem in a shop, a clinic and a school. But in a clinic it holds health notes, in a shop it holds card sales and in a school it holds pupils' marks. The best response changes with the place.

A good analyst looks at the context, picks a control, explains it and writes it down.

Step 1: find the concerns

Look at the place and the data. Ask what could go wrong for privacy, and for security. Privacy asks, "Could somebody see what they should not?" Security asks, "Could the data be lost, damaged or stolen?"

Each place has its own answers.
