DA 5.14: Plans, policies and standards that protect

This is the first page of the lesson. Read it and have a go at the activities. The rest is in the full lesson.

60 minutes

The flood in the server room

A burst pipe floods the room where a firm keeps its servers. Customers cannot book. Staff stand around. Somebody asks, "Is there a plan?" There is, but it sits in a drawer and nobody has read it.

Plans, rules and training only help if they exist, are known and are practised.

BCP and DRP

A business continuity plan keeps the business going during a disruption. It says what to do in the first hours, such as using paper forms or working from home.

A disaster recovery plan restores normal work after a disaster such as a flood or a fire. It says how to restore data from backups and rebuild systems.
