Same data, five containers
The canteen has a term of sales data. You could put it in a slide show, a report, a live screen, a poster or a short video.
The container is called the format. Pick the wrong one and the best data goes unread.

Five formats compared
| Format | Best for | Strength | Drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Presentation | A group in a room | You can answer questions live | Needs everyone there at one time |
| Report | Full detail and a record | Room for method and evidence | Slow to read |
| Dashboard | Numbers that change all day | Always up to date | Can get cluttered and hide the reasons |
| Infographic | The public or a quick read | Easy to remember | Little detail and can oversimplify |
| Video | Explaining steps or a story | Sound and motion keep attention | Needs captions and time to make |
